Embedthis Software Product Licensing
Embedthis software products are available under either an open source license or a commerical license. However, there are great benefits to using the commercial license.
Commercial License Benefits
The Embedthis Appweb commercial license provides you with the following benefits:
- Right to use and embed the software
- Ability to redistribute the software without disclosing your source code
- Software updates and upgrades
- Security enhancement service
- Priority support
- Commercial Warranty covering intellectual property rights and use of open source code
Right to use and embed the software
You get the right to use the licensed software in a single development project and can incorporate the Software for all products shipped for one year. You can also upgrade previously shipped products at no extra charge. See the Software Agreements for details.
Ability to redistribute the software
You get the right to ship and redistribute your product without having to disclose your source code.
Software updates and upgrades
You receive all updates and upgrades published for one year. You will be automatically notified as new software is released.
Security enhancement service
If security flaws are discovered, you will be proactively notified and will receive patches or workarounds as soon as they are released.
Priority support
As part of the commercial license fee, you are entitled to priority support. This provides you with technical support services to resolve issues with the Software should you encounter any. See the Technical Support Addendum at the end of the Commercial License agreement for full details.

The Development Kit
The Development Kits include the software source code, samples, documentation, configuration and build scripts. The Kit is licensed for use on a single system. With it you can create your application that include portions of Embedthis software. You can redistribute these applications, or devices containing these applications for the purpose of field trials. When you are ready for production release, you will need to obtain a Production Deployment License.
The Development Kit License includes a 12 months support agreement. After the first year, support renewal packages may be purchased.
If you plan to ship fewer than 500 units of your product over its lifetime, we offer a OneStop license that includes a discounted development kit and a license to ship up to 500 products. NOTE: this license is not upgradable should you exceed the 500 units.
Field Trials
The Development Kit License includes the ability to conduct test trials of your application that includes Appweb on up to 100 systems before your production release. This is designed so you can test your product in real-world situations before needing a Production Deployment License.
Support
The Appweb support agreement provides:
- Email support for development and deployment issues
- Priority notification of security updates
- Priority patch service for level 1 bugs
There are 2 levels: basic and premium.
Production Deployment License
After development, you will need an Production Deployment License that provides you with the ability to distribute applications or devices that include the Embedthis software.
Licenses are tiered according to volume. The license fee is calculated as an estimate at the start of the year for the number of units you anticipate shipping. If you exceed that volume, you simply upgrade by paying the difference.
